Dental care in Pregnancy
Pregnancy and dental treatment are common for expecting moms. Preventive dental cleanings and annual exams during pregnancy are not only safe but, are recommended. The rise in hormone levels during pregnancy causes the gums to swell, bleed and trap food causing increased irritation to your gums.
Preventive dental work during pregnancy is essential to avoid oral infections such as gum diseases, which have been linked to preterm birth. Tell your dentist if you are pregnant. Any urgent procedure can be done with necessary precautions. All elective dental procedures , however should be postponed until after the delivery. Follow good oral hygiene practices to prevent and /or reduce oral health problems.
How to deal with morning sickness-
- If morning sickness is keeping you from brushing your teeth, change to a bland tasting toothpaste during pregnancy.
- Rinse your mouth with water or a mouth rinse if you suffer from morning sickness and have bouts of frequent vomiting.
Dental Treatment for disabled patients
Developmental disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, and intellectual disability are present during childhood or adolescence and last a lifetime. They present with a range of conditions and level of impairment. They need special dental care because they may require extra support to access dental services, undergo treatment and derive full benefits from oral care.
Persons with disabilities are incapable of carrying out normal obligations of a dental patient. They are dependent to a varying degree on others to make dental care decisions for them, to transport them to the dental office, and to perform or assist them with daily oral hygiene.
Most people with mild or moderate developmental disabilities can be treated successfully in the general practice setting. Our team at Dental World has successfully treated many patients with varying disabilities. We take extra care to take a detailed medical history and make a flexible treatment plan that is most beneficial for the patient. We believe that is most beneficial for the patient.
