Fluoride application-

Fluorides help prevent tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth. It also reverses early decay. In children under 6 years of age, fluoride becomes incorporated into the development of permanent e9a8a195dfabea07dc96a99c93c31d4d-700x460teeth, making it difficult for acids to demineralize the teeth. Fluoride also helps speed remineralization as well as disrupts acid production in already erupted teeth of both children and adults.

A dentist in his or her office can also apply fluoride to the teeth as a gel, foam, or varnish. These treatments contain a much higher level of fluoride than the amount found in tooth pastes and mouth rinses. Varnishes are painted on the teeth; foams are put into a mouth guard, which is applied to the teeth for one to four minutes; gels can be painted on or applied via a mouth guard.Fluoride application is most important for infants and children between the ages of 6 months and 16 years.  This is the time frame during which the primary and permanent teeth come in.Pediatric Dentistry

Fluoride varnish is a highly concentrated form of fluoride which is applied to the tooth’s surface by the dentist as a type of topical fluoride therapy.Fluoride varnish is composed of a high concentration of fluoride as a salt or silane preparation in a fast drying, alcohol and resin based solution. Fluoride Varnish is the most effective form of topical fluoride for the prevention of dental caries.

Pit and Fissure Sealants-

Prevention is always better than cure and it has never been truer than in dental health especially for children. It is always advisable to maintain good oral health than to fix the problem after it arises. Pit and fissure sealants are the keys to avoid dental caries in children.pit-and-fissure-sealants1

Pits and fissures occur in the occlusal (chewing) surface of molars and premolars. They can deepen over time and plaque removal becomes difficult by brushing or flossing. As this bacteria grows, it interacts with the starches in the food you eat, turning them into acids that can eat away at tooth enamel. If this process causes enough decay, it eventually spreads to the inner pulp of the tooth. This can result in extremely painful and unsightly damage, which csealantsean cause lifelong dental problems. While fluoride helps prevent decay and helps protect all the surfaces of the teeth, dental sealants add extra
protection for the grooved and pitted areas.
